Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!
I remember in high school playing football, we worked together with single-minded focus — for victory. At least that was what we were supposed to do. Sometimes players would get distracted, lose sight of the football, and get focused on their own goals first. I had a friend that this happened to sometimes. He was a huge man on the field, way stronger than anyone else. But at times, he would be so locked into his battle on the line of scrimmage, he would forget about the football game. That said, most of the time he was a huge asset to the team.
Victory comes from everyone focusing on winning the battle. There has to be an overriding drive to work together to win and set our personal ambitions aside. It is well documented that many a rogue lieutenant led a charge without the General’s blessing, because they wanted the glory; and it cost them the battle. Timing matters. Strategy counts. And we cannot always see the whole battlefield from our perspective.
As we walk with God, he looks down from heaven with a perspective over all the world! He also has a perspective throughout all time. So he is calling out plays or actions with much more perspective than we could ever possibly hope for.
While some on this earth trust in military might, we are called to trust in the Lord. He is working his plan of salvation all around us. His right hand is powerful and mighty and he acts at just the right time.
RISE UP AND STAND with the Lord, my friends! Trust him and he will never fail you.
Lord, I cast aside the things this world wants me to trust in and I trust solely in you. You are Lord of all! So I rise up and stand in the battles of life, because your mighty right hand will fight for me.
