But the Lord said, “You have been concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?”
What I love here is that, though God doesn’t need to explain his decisions, at times he does in extraordinary ways. Here, he uses Jonah’s senseless anger against him. Who can argue with the logic of saving 120,000 souls over saving a plant?
Sometimes, I get in a funk where I am not seeing life clearly, or my emotions or rights cloud my judgment. In short, I get selfish or self-centered. And God continues to work with me to bring my thinking and actions back to health and to what is his “good, pleasing, and perfect will. (Romans 12:2).
