What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

I Timothy‬ ‭1:9-11‬
We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

Entrusted. It is an interesting concept. It brings to mind … a great treasure or something of value. Some entrust their money to financial advisors who act as fiduciaries on their behalf. More valuable still, others entrust their children to guardians for their upbringing, should they pass away early. When we entrust our resources we have saved, or our children (our future blessings) to someone, we place on them a high position of honor. We are telling them we believe they are trustworthy with what is most valuable to us. We trust them to act as if these resources were their own or the children (they may need to care for) are their own.
God has entrusted “The Gospel” to us, his followers. This gospel is the real truth that God loves us so deeply he sent his One and Only Son to save us. And Jesus not only saved us, he reconciled us to right relationship with a God who desires a personal, real relationship with us. It is the ultimate, eternal Good News! So once we commit to follow Jesus and are entrusted, we have come under a contract or covenant with God to live for him as a “slave” to his goodness in life. We are no longer calling our own shots, and we are no longer bound by the sin that “calling our own shots” increased and multiplied in our lives. We are God’s very own, his possession, and he is now calling the shots. And he is calling us to receive his grace and live — REALLY LIVE — in the light of his glory and under the service of the truth he has entrusted to us. We have been given freedom from sin, God’s Spirit to live inside us, a new hope, and new life. And as entrusted servants, we manifest this: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

‭‭(Galatians‬ ‭5:22-23‬)‬‬ So today, when we think of all that has been entrusted to us by God, let us live the blessed life of “slavery” to God’s goodness.

Thank you, Lord, for entrusting me with the good news, your gospel, about your rescue mission on which you sent Jesus to save me and many just like me. I will work hard to learn from you what it means to be your faithful servant, and honor the trust you have placed in me.
