When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.
There is a song out there called 9 to 5, and the chorus started, “Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin’”. Well Jesus certainly did not limit himself to working 9 to 5. He also worked nights and weekends!
Jesus not only worked long hours, but he exerted great power to heal and redeem! I can only imagine all of the demon-possessed people lined up to have Jesus free them. And he did — with One Word!
One word was all that was needed. Imagine the demon shrieks that rang out that night? And since that was not really enough work outside of the 9 to 5 schedule, he also healed a lot of people.
Why did Jesus work these crazy hours doing crazy hard work?
He did this because he cared deeply for people. So deeply, he bore our diseases and took up our iniquities. His massive capacity to love compelled him to save and heal. He was driven to serve.
How driven am I to care for and serve others?
Lord, thank you for sending your best, Jesus, to teach, heal, redeem and sacrifice for us. He is the model of hard work and servant leadership!
