Rejecting the Invitation‭‭ - Matthew‬ ‭22‬:‭1‬-‭7‬

Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.
Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.”

Think of the most incredible feast you can imagine. It is all being prepared for some people to celebrate a wedding. But instead of joining this feast, this wholesome marriage, not only do these “friends” refuse to attend, they murder the messengers.

If you were the host of the feast, how would this make you feel? What would you do?

In comparison, God prepares a spiritual feast for us to partake in, eating the good fruits from a life of following him and making him Lord and Savior. Instead, many have chosen to reject this invitation and this free gift. Because God’s truth requires a repentant heart, the unrepentant do not want to bring attention to their sins, so they accuse the messengers of the rich noble landowner. And they do all sorts of evil and violent actions to them.

This feast of spiritual food, prepared by God, has names associated with the food. Something the shape and texture of roasted lamb is called kindness. Faithfulness is written on the roast beef, joy on the fruit cocktail, and patience on the rolls, etc.

We eat of God 's goodness when we spend time with him in prayer. He loves to give good spiritual gifts to his children.

Lord, thank you for your truth and honesty. You called out wishy-washy faith right here. And in doing so you challenged your disciples back then and you challenge me today. You challenge us to join you. Help me to respond to your invitation to meet with you with trust and faithfulness to enjoy your feast.
