While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied. He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’ If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.

I Corinthians 1:20, 27-31
Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
It is always rather comical to see a haughty, “intelligent” person stumped by a question they don’t have the answer for, or a statement which derails their supposed wisdom.
Jesus thought he would give the Pharisees and teachers of the law an education in the Spiritual Realities of God. God’s wisdom is far above the wisdom of man. And they were pretending to be wise, though they were foolish because they were prideful.
Here Jesus asked them, “Who is the Messiah and what is his lineage?” They accurately responded that he was the son of David, as the Bible foretold. But then he quotes scripture that prophesied about the Messiah, and the fact that David calls him “my Lord”. So how could the Messiah be David’s “Lord”, when he was to come after he is dead?
This would stump not only the educated, but the uneducated too. He was quoting a prophecy about the supernatural event of the Messiah, Jesus himself, coming to earth as a man, though he had been alive since creation. Therefore, he is both the coming Messiah, and David’s Lord, who is honored by God to sit at his right hand.
And it points out an important truth: True wisdom is found in wholeheartedly following the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who is wise with an out-of-this-world type of wisdom. Many try to communicate with aliens and extraterrestrial beings, to gain wisdom. Instead they should look to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Ruler & Creator of the whole universe and its galaxies.
Lord, help us to seek your wisdom which is based on the absolute truth. The world’s wisdom is a moving target and changes with the wind. Help me to trust you and act on your commands and promptings, found in the Bible and through your Spirit.
