[Jesus speaking]
Later the others also came. “Lord, Lord,” they said, “open the door for us!”
But he replied, “Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.” Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
This final part of the parable is a section of judgment. This section deals with those who claim a connection with the Master. They call him “Lord”. They are familiar with him. They may have gone to church or said all the right things. But they were not faithful followers. They did not sacrifice all and humble themselves.
Instead, they lived a life of comfort, self-importance, passion, and sin. And when they come to the Master, the Lord of all, there will be no fooling him. He sees right through their feigned allegiance to their corrupt hearts.
He says, “Depart from me, I never knew you.” It is the worst consequence that one can imagine. God-in-the-flesh, who created us and all of creation and sustains all life, casts them out into utter darkness.
Lord, thank you for sharing this consequence of rejecting your Lordship in my life. Fill me with your Spirit and teach me to follow you faithfully!
