Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

-Parallel verses:
[Jesus speaking]
But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
‭‭
God designed sex for use in marriage. It is very pleasurable. It is also a uniting of a man and a woman that was designed to happen in the marriage covenant. There is commitment and other factors that unite them together along with sexual unity. This creates a strong bond and relationship foundation. They share the same house, the same bed (at least some of the time), the same finances; they have joined together two people into one family. And out of the joy of uniting, together they can most of the time produce children. What a wonderful gift we are given in marriage! This is why divorce is so damaging. It is the breaking apart of marriage and a commitment of two to become one (though God can bring healing out of the brokenness of divorce). It is also why adultery and fornication are wrong. They break either a current or future commitment of unity. In this passage, we see that men’s hearts were darkened because they did not give God the glory and praise due him. And after giving them over to the sinful desires of their heart for sexual impurity (adultery, fornication, etc.) and living a lie, he now gives them over to shameful lusts — homosexuality, orgies, and the like. Though it does not mention it specifically here, I believe and find in life that beastiality and child sexploitation are also close followers here. We are seeing this now in our society with the drag queen performances to children and this sick grooming process. It is evil and wrong.
Paul is declaring a giving over of these people to the evil one for him to reign in their lives. While God is always wanting his children to return to him, he gives them free will. And there are consequences physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for these evil behaviors.
The good news is God also came to save the lost. He loves every man, woman or child, no matter what type of sin they have committed in the past. This love is too strong to overlook sin that will damage them. And it is too strong to ever give up on them, as well. It is a love that waits in anticipation of a return to the truth in life.
So many of us may find ourselves in a waiting game for others. Some of us may find that we are described in one of the above sinful life categories. But the amazing message of the gospel is that Jesus paid the price for our sins, no matter how bad we think they are. And he will rescue, heal, and restore us. He will make us new!
Praise you, Father, for the truth in your word. You do not tell us about sin for us to compare with and judge each other. Instead, you desire for all to come to a Saving Grace in you! May I be a light to those caught in the trap of sexual sin!
