Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
I pray before my time of writing, to gain God’s perspective on his Word, and I first try to visualize Jesus, my Savior. I then think about all of the worries, stresses, concerns in my life and picture them in a balloon that blows up and leaves my mind. For the past week or so, after this, I have seen Jesus walking to me in my mind, lite up in all of his splendor! As I think about that now, maybe this is a part of that image right here in this verse. In all of the filth and wickedness of sin in this world, there is a glimmer of hope. Just like these verses, while the law pointed out, convicted us, and held us accountable for our sin; God still provided. “But now … the righteousness of God has been made known”. My friends, picture the worst hurricane you can imagine — tearing through your city, your neighborhood, your home. And after all this despair and destruction, all of the sudden comes a bulldozer to clear away the wreckage, and then trucks and trucks of building products and construction workers. And they are coming to build you a new home. It is like that with God. He is coming to usher in newness in relationship with him. “But God, being [so very] rich in mercy, because of His great and wonderful love with which He loved us, even when we were [spiritually] dead and separated from Him because of our sins, He made us [spiritually] alive together with Christ (for by His grace—His undeserved favor and mercy—you have been saved from God’s judgment).”
(Ephesians 2:4-5 AMP)
So today, when we have worries or doubts or fears or concerns, remember: “But God …”
Thank you Lord Jesus for the great rescue effort you made for mankind, while we were stuck in the “muck and mire” of sin. Though the world may not care at times, you loved us enough to sacrifice!
