“Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him. “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.”

“Entrusted” is a key word here. The Father (God) entrusts all judgment to the Son (Jesus). This type of relationship is only built through faithfulness, trial, pain, and perseverance. Along with the entrusting responsibility, comes TRANSFERRED HONOR. And this honor that is transferred from Father to Son should be honored by us. Not just because God the Father trusts the Son, but because of the Son’s love, which is like the Father’s love. True love requires judgment. Otherwise it is just pacifism. Many in our times (and in Jesus’ times) will not take a stand for fear of offending or not being as popular with others. FEAR KILLS a movement because it squelches the belief of its members. Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

What people don’t realize, is that conviction-less faith will in the end — condemn them. If judgment between right and wrong didn’t matter, why would God grant the Son judgment power? As we will see later in this passage, it is clear that only the faithful of heart, those who follow Jesus and receive his gift, will inherit eternal life. Everyone else will be condemned. And while this is true, it is also true that those who follow Jesus wholeheartedly in life, will experience HIS LIFE BREATHING into them. And those who follow this World will experience its death breathing into them. Three times Jesus says “Very Truly I tell you”. He is trying to get our attention. This is called a “triple imperative”, and it means it really important. You must trust and honor him to be his follower. Only true followers inherit eternal life. Do not trust in the world or the people or things of this world. You will be disappointed. They are fleeting. In John 12:35, it says: “Then Jesus told them, ‘You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk in the light, before darkness overtakes you. Put your trust in the light while you still have it, so that you may become sons of light.’”

Let us stay in the light of Christ and experience life — TRUE LIFE as we live!
