I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One. The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.

[Jesus speaking]
Acts‬ ‭1:8‬
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

I have found in life, many people wander around somewhat aimlessly wondering … what does God want me to do? What is the point of my life? John searched for and knew his purpose and calling — he was called to prepare the way for the Messiah and to be a witness. This makes me think of someone who prepares the way for a king or queen. Their goal is to make everything as perfect as possible, so the focus and attention can be on the king or queen. If they then step out into the road as the king or queen passes and try to take the attention away from the royalty coming through, they will be cast off or fired. In the same way, many today say they serve God, but they want to take part of the glory as they prepare the way. It is tempting for me too. John the Baptist here is a great model for us. First, he is faithful to minister to the people and call out their sin and baptize them in their repentance. He did this for many years and became quite famous. But once Jesus appeared, he acknowledged that Jesus was the Christ, the Chosen One. And then he simply got out of the way and he pointed to Jesus for others to follow. Two of his disciples left and he welcomed their leaving. Why? Because he understood that his glory would come in eternity, not on earth. And so he served in God’s work faithfully, and then he “got out of the way”. I hear many today say, “I only want to serve here or in this area of skill”. They want to play it safe. But God wants us to risk it all for his kingdom and serve in whatever role or opportunity he opens up to us. I remember that his power is made perfect in weakness! Jesus called his disciples to be his witnesses in Acts, prior to his heavenly ascension. He calls me. Will I be faithful to step out of the way and point to the Savior when he comes or shows his hand in the work around me?
Thank you Lord for your patience with me. You love me in spite of my weaknesses.
Fill me to be your witness and help me to lead others to you!
