“Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.”

Have you ever had to go into hiding? Most of us in the U.S. have not. But when delivering a tough message against an evil and powerful person, at times they may try to retaliate. First of all, we see that Elijah is obedient to prophesy a famine in the land due to God’s judgment of this evil king. Second, we see God call Elijah to hide. And as he hides, he causes ravens to bring him meat and bread.

This is such a bizarre happening that the only explanation is … it was the hand of God. God will call us to do things outside our comfort zone if we are sold out for him. And when we obey, he shows us his faithfulness every time. He knows the future and what is in store, and he always has good things in store for his children. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

When we trust God in tough circumstances he always provides for us a way out. He leads our paths. And when it is time to leave this life … he leads us heavenward!

Lord, thank you for your truth, which builds us up, and your calling, which grows our faith. I will be faithful to confront evil as you call me to, trusting you to provide a way out.
