Jesus is the Visible Image of an Invisible God‭‭ - Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭15‬-‭17‬

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

--Parallel verses:
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭37‬-‭39‬
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Imagine with me the most beautiful sunrise you have ever seen. Maybe it was on a beach with the waves setting up the vivid display of colors off the water. Now imagine someone coming up to you and telling you they have bottled a similar sunrise in a small bottle about 2 inches tall by 1 inch in diameter. You would think they were crazy, right?

This is similar to what is described here about God and Jesus. The God who made the universe, all of the stars and solar systems and the sun, who made all of the cells that make up the human body, who engineered food growing processes and animal reproduction, this God was fully represented in a small human named Jesus (who also happened to be God as well). Completely Mind-blowing!

And so Jesus, who was “the image of the invisible God”, walked around and lived among us. Everything was created by him, and he was before everything created. He also sustains all things.

As I thought about this, I was definitely cognizant of all of the worldly things that I stress over, worry about, and/or fear. And these things are so much smaller and less powerful than Jesus, my Savior and Lord!

So in comes the passage in Romans 8. It says we are more than conquerors through him who loves us (that is Jesus)! Jesus was the one who created everything, sustains it all and has lived forever. He is offering to forgive us our sins if we call him Savior and Lord. And once we accept him he gives us his Spirit in our hearts. This power is also referenced in Ephesians 1 as the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead.

There is nothing that has power over me if Jesus is with me. All the things I may let have power over me are not nearly as powerful as Jesus. And so I must tap into his power each day, in every way, and more and more as the days get tougher.

Lord, you are over all demons, all worldly rulers, all darkness, all of life’s circumstances, and everything we worry or stress about. Thank you for this great reminder to put you in your place and let all of the other things that haunt me most …fade away.
