The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

What an amazing thought: to think that we were created through Jesus.

God is a God of purpose and order. He made everything through Jesus and most of what he made regenerates and makes new life.

When we think of our solar system, we realize that everything orbits around the sun. All life on planet earth is possible because of the distance from the sun and the relative temperature ranges we experience. The sun sustains life through providing essential heat, growing properties, vitamin D and other nutrients, and more.

What this passage is saying is that Jesus is like the sun in a much bigger way. Everything in the whole universe orbits around him. He is the thing — the one thing — that holds everything together. Without Jesus, our lives would be meaningless and our spiritual significance null.

And Jesus is the head of the church. The church is the body of Christ. Together we represent Jesus on earth so when people see us, they should be impressed. Not impressed by our wealth, or our position or power, but impressed by the way we imitate Jesus.

Through creation, we get a picture of the heart of God, and understand that God caused all of his fullness to rest on Jesus. Jesus gave his life for all of mankind, paying the price on the cross for our sins. So since Jesus was operating under the fullness of God, we can believe that God deeply loves us. He loves us so much that he sent his son to die for us, and Jesus has reconciled us to God if we believe in him with our whole heart.

So when I look at creation today, I remember that Jesus, just like the sun, is the center of all that was made and all that is. The difference is that he is the center of all universes and all things in the spiritual world as well. And since he’s my savior and Lord, I have a great, a mighty, and an immensely powerful advocate for the good things that God wants to do in my life.

Lord, thank you for reminding me that Jesus is the vessel that you chose to create everything. I do not need to worry, because Jesus is in control — and he loves me.
