Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I think the image of a great waterfall is majestic in so many ways. From a distance, the mist it gives off creates beautiful rainbows. As you draw closer, you feel the coolness and freshness of the spray on your face. There are typically green trees and shrubs all around. And as you draw closer still — the powerful force of the sheer volume of water crashing on the rocks — it is impressive and a bit overwhelming.

Now I picture myself in the middle of the waterfall, getting washed by it, overpowered by it. It overwhelms me. This is the power of the peace of Christ ruling in my body. And springing out from this place of peace are great results: the actions of teaching and instructing in the truth, praising God, singing, and serving each other. These actions are like “the mist” of the waterfall in the lives of those around me.

The actions then produce hearts full of thankfulness to God, godly wisdom, and gratitude for all he has given us. Like a rainbow reflecting off the water in incredible beauty, so too, my godly character traits are a reflection of Jesus Christ shining through me to love on and save those lost in sin.

So today, be washed in the waterfall of the peace of Christ. Embrace its overpowering and overwhelming nature. And act in a way of peace, which gives off the aroma of Christ (II Corinthians 2:16). Be like the mist of the waterfall that refreshes and provides spiritual nutrients for those around you. Do this out of the abundance of what you have been given in Christ Jesus.

To God be the glory! He will fill me with all wisdom, thankfulness, and gratitude.

Lord, thank you for this great truth here about your peace. It is powerful, refreshes the lives of others, and reflects your glory! Help me to each day be washed in your peace!
