Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here.

Life can be really difficult when there are many unknowns. It is kind and thoughtful of Paul to send an envoy of his trusted advisors to let the Colossians know about his situation. Why does he do this? Well, 1) he needs the prayer support for strength and courage to continue to be a witness of the gospel. 2) He wants to encourage the Colossians that he still has hope in God in spite of all that has happened, and to tell them how God has worked in spite of the troubles he has faced. 3) He wants the faith of the Colossians to grow by their prayers and faithfulness in tough times, as they model after Paul. And lastly, he wants the brothers to be received with respect and the honor due them for supporting Paul.
