Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”

History is full of people who started small and then their passions ended up growing to expansive enterprises. Take, for instance, the Wright Brothers: they decided they wanted to invent an apparatus to fly like a bird in the air. They worked and worked at it and finally … they flew the first flight. Today, airplanes transport millions of people around the globe and have made international business accelerate and connected us to foreign land’s people and their goods.

Jesus is telling us we can have an impact in a much greater way than the Wright Brothers did with aviation. We can expand the eternal kingdom of the one and only God. And the only thing we need to do is PLANT THE SEED OF FAITH IN THE GARDEN OF OUR HEART. And we must allow his Holy Spirit to tend to the garden, pruning and picking fruit to make it more fruitful and vibrant still!

One small amount (or seed) of faith can produce, in us, so much greatness! Do I believe this truth? Will I continue to act on it?

And finally, when faith is mature, it provides a safe place for others to rest and be refreshed. This is the same as birds resting in a tree and building a nest. Others can rely on and grow from my faith!

Lord, thank you for your encouragement here to keep me focused on what matters. So many things dwell in my mind these days, but only one can have primacy. I want my faith in you to reign in my heart and be the overriding plant in my garden. May it be so!
