The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”) From the fullness of his grace we all have received one blessing after another.

Though I haven’t been there, I have heard about how they take ships through the Panama Canal. It seems they have two roads on either side of the canal and they have steering vehicles with ropes that take the ships through, so they don’t crash into the walls. (Don’t hold me to it, it is just what I heard they do. Maybe there is a more advanced system now?)
Jesus said this in Matthew: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (Matthew‬ ‭7:13-14‬). As I read the above verses about Jesus, we see that he became flesh. He was in our world. And he had to enter through the small gate and journey on the narrow road. I see this like a ship going through a narrow canal. And the guidelines on either side were managed by vehicles called Grace and Truth. Jesus was full of Grace and full of Truth. These gifts of God guided him in all things on earth. Some on this earth love to talk about grace only. Others only like to focus on the truth. Either way, one cannot navigate a narrow canal with just one guide vehicle. The ship will hit the side. Both are needed for the ship and both are needed in life. As followers of Jesus, we must be full of both grace and truth. And as we dwell with our Savior and experience his grace, we are blessed. Not just once, but over and over again we are blessed. We are blessed with new blessing we could not see before and in new ways we would have never experienced, save by following Jesus. What vast riches are the treasures of God’s grace and his truth! Thank you Lord, for all of the ways you truly bless me each and every day. All the honor and glory is yours!
