Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden.
How do I see God?
Do I see him for what he can do for me, or who he actually is?
Habakkuk took time to see God for who he really is. And here we find his description. God is famous. His deeds are renowned on the earth. His glory covers the heavens. His praise, were it to be measured, fills the earth. His splendor (majesty, the scope of his beauty, his radiance) is like the most beautiful sunrise, but far greater still!
Finally there is his power. Rays flash from his hands. His power is not totally contained, it is so massive. And it shows in small ways through the lightning rays.
What can we do but stand in COMPLETE AWE of him and surrender our hearts, minds, and actions in complete loyalty to his amazing ways?
I echo Habakkuk here: Repeat your mighty deeds in our day, Lord. Make your name known far and wide in power. And in wrath, please remember mercy, for I need it and so do those around me.
