Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
There are some important points here in this section that I find uplifting:
- Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God the Father. He is the universal second in command.
- He is so powerful that, already winning the war against sin and the Devil, he now sits in glory and waits on God’s timing to make his enemies his footstool.
- While we are being made holy (sanctified), Jesus continues to be the perfect sacrifice for us into the future, that makes us perfect in God’s eyes.
- Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, God has forgiven our sins. He no longer holds them against us. And he remembers them no more. Why? He loves us and he loves his Son. If he remembered our sins and held them against us, would he not be invalidating the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross?
We serve a loving and mighty Savior who deserves our full submission to his plans for us and loyalty to his word and his way to true life.
Even when life seems upside down, depending on Jesus as my life anchor is a “no brainer”!
Lord, thank you for your Word here that helps me more completely visualize what I have in Jesus and what he has done for me. Your love for me is infinite and not conditional on my actions. Teach me to love like this more and more!
