So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”

When people try to replace the power of Jesus with an angel, it is no contest — Jesus wins every time. This is why he was so dominant over the demons (or fallen angels) and cast them out while he was on earth. Jesus’ power is not merely one of might or authority. He has the power of love and self-sacrifice. His power came in the way he lived — sold out to God. He sacrificed all for us.

Some people, in the times Hebrew was written, no doubt prayed to and worshipped angels. So the writer has to set the record straight. Angels are not as powerful as Jesus.

We see this today in many faiths, the worship or exaltation of angels or also people called “saints”. Many pray to Mary the mother of Jesus too. This worship of anyone other than Jesus is wrong and causes harm to the faith of others. Jesus said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬)

Angels are very powerful: 1) Two of them took out a whole garrison of soldiers at his tomb and left them in shock. 2) One destroying angel killed all of the first born of the Egyptians, as well as their livestock, in a single night. 3) An angel fed and ministered to Elijah so he could travel a long distance without food or water. 4) Many angels are found to be very powerful in John’s book of Revelation.

However powerful they are, Jesus’ power outweighs theirs. He alone is called God’s Son. He alone was with God at the creation of the world. And he alone can save souls for eternity.

So when I pray, I only pray to Jesus because he commands it and he is the only one who can truly answer my prayers with pure godly goodness.

Lord, help me to recognize your incredible power and your willingness to help me fight my battles today. Go before me and make a way where there seems to be no way. Praise your name, Jesus!
