We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
What is this hope mentioned here based on? 1) the Almighty Power of God, 2) His incredible love demonstrated in sending sinless Jesus, his Son, to die as a sacrifice for our sins. He paid the price of death for our sins, so we don’t have to. And, 3) God is faithful and always keeps his promises. He promises us greatness in heaven. We are promised an even greater place than the angels, as just like Jesus, we have learned how to worship and trust God more and more through trials.
So this is the hope that anchors my soul. What an incredible hope!
Our hope gives us confidence. It gives us confidence to enter into a relationship with God directly. In the past, the Jews had to go into the temple and they were not allowed to go into the Holy of Holies, only the high priest could do that once a year. This separation from God was practically made by a very thick curtain. When Jesus died, that curtain was torn by the hand of God through an earthquake, no longer separating us from God.
And so our hope, combined with our confidence, gives us the power of God each day in our spirit. Jesus is our advocate to God the father and he tells God what we need. So when we follow God, even in situations that are unknown, we have the confidence of Jesus, our advocate, asking God to provide for us everything we need to succeed. It’s a pretty great partnership!
Lord, thank you for the hope that you’ve provided to me in my life. It is an anchor for my soul! My hope in you is immovable, it is solid, and I can rely on it no matter the winds, the storms, or the challenges life may throw at me — my life is anchored in you. Use me, however you desire, to be a blessing to many.
