For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also. He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of THE POWER OF AN INDESTRUCTIBLE LIFE. For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
What is an indestructible life? How do I live in this zone of “indestructible-ness”?
As I sit here this morning, I started off my day feeling a bit overwhelmed. I could not even put my finger on it, because much in my life is going well. My marriage relationship with Cherish has grown quite a bit over the last year, God is blessing many of my kids, and my business is starting to gain traction. So why be overwhelmed? It was fear.
So when I decided to go through my prayer process this morning, I realized fear was starting to paralyze me. My process is to name the fears I am dealing with, lay them at the foot of the cross where Jesus died, and see Jesus walking towards me, giving me the fruits of the Spirit. It works every day for me. Not because it is a special process or magical in any way. It is because Jesus has the power of an indestructible life.
This incredible power blasts my fear into tiny little pieces; and the power of fear to hold me back or to cause me to react poorly (and in sin) is gone. This power Jesus holds is available to me every day.
Many go to a human priest today, just like the Jews did back in Biblical times. Sometimes this person is called a priest today, sometimes they go to a shaman, life coach, pastor, or something else. But all of these people are sinners (some saved by grace) and their power to help us is diminished. Jesus is a priest of a different and much more powerful order. He is the one to whom my allegiance is owed and given.
It is not that people are bad or should not be used to help me — they are very helpful if the help is received in the right context. Their wisdom, their thoughts, their insights are subservient to the Word of God and the power of my High Priest, Jesus Christ!
Lord, thank you for this revived revelation today. Jesus has the power of an indestructible life. This power is available to me. All I have to do is to reach out to him in prayer and seek him first every day. Thank you for healing my heart and mind this morning!
