Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
The priesthood was designed to lead us to God and forgive sins in part and for a short time through the offering of sacrifices. These priests had to first offer sacrifices for themselves and receive God’s forgiveness, prior to offering for others.
However, in Jesus we have a priest who was perfect and does not need to repent or offer sacrifices for himself. While the law appointed weak men into this occupation, Jesus is a monumental powerhouse of strength for those who come to him for help. He is holy, blameless, pure, set apart, and exalted!
Lord, thank you for a wonderful high priest, who meets my needs in every way, like a spiritual Swiss Army knife. You are truly amazing and always willing to help.
