It was to this end that He called you through our gospel [the good news of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection], so that you may obtain and share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Very simply, our purpose in life is to glorify God and his Son, Jesus Christ. We are to, in our thoughts, attitudes and actions, bring them glory. And when we do this, we obtain and share in the glory of Jesus Christ.

Why? Because he gave us his Spirit in our hearts as a seal of his eternal promise of salvation. And since the Holy Spirit is part of the triune God, when we bring glory to God, and God resides in our hearts in the form of the Holy Spirit, then we also bring glory to ourselves — to our hearts, where the Holy Spirit resides.

So when it says we are called, it means we are chosen, picked, and included into the family of God. He loves us and his love does not go away when times get hard or we are in tough situations.

Called to glorify God and bring glory to ourselves in the process. What a really cool calling!

Lord, thank you for picking me to share the gospel and bring you glory. I am honored to be considered your front man. I will always stand up for your name, Lord Jesus!
