Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

We are reading the parable book, The Go-Giver, at work. I highly recommend it. It talks about building your career by giving away your time and resources. It sounds like the opposite of what we should do. But it actually works.

And Jesus adds to that command here by saying, “Do not judge, but forgive!”

Generosity is not just pertaining to money. It is a lifestyle that defines all of who we are. Am I generous with the grace and mercy I give? Will I give the gift of forgiveness to others when they have hurt me? Will I give sacrificially of my resources to honor God and trust that he will reward me infinitely more than I give?

The last part deals with comparative righteousness. When we compare ourselves with others, that is when we get into trouble. God made us to be complete with his Spirit in our hearts. And so our comparison is to perfection and our goal is to be perfectly submitted to his heart, will, and active ways.

When I cast aside comparison and embrace a relationship with my Savior Jesus, then I become a child of the king and he works in and through me. This is in spite of my imperfections.

Lord, thank you for this encouragement to be a generous person. You were very generous with your time, your resources, your power, and your life. Help me to be more generous too.
