Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
I enjoy having ice cream every once in a while. And though I am not really supposed to eat it, at times I indulge.
Now there is the store-bought ice cream, which is what I usually buy. It tastes ok and when I come home everyone else is excited I bought it. But if we want to go to another level, there are ice cream stores that make ice cream too. It has a much smoother and rich creamy taste to it. The ones who makes this ice cream have a much bigger impact on the taster. They bless everyone around with this great treat. There are some stores, like Stella’s or others, that have multiple locations. A new franchiser needs to be trained by the ice cream maker in how to make good ice cream.
So it is with being a person of peace. Our source of peace in life is not based on circumstances or status or wealth. It is based on God. And Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. He makes the Peace we can have. And if we want to learn how to become a peacemaker, we must study under the master of making peace, Jesus.
Our peace is reliant on God. When we draw close to him and see how he builds peace in our hearts, we also, by his power, can build peace into the lives of others. Just like a brand of ice cream carries a taste to it in the mouth of others, and when someone is trained in making good ice cream, they carry a reputation, so it is with peacemakers. When we become peacemakers through the power of God’s Spirit, we shine his light to all around. It has a good smell and taste to it, and it brings peace and joy, with hope to those it blesses. And the people say, “She must be related to Jesus!” Or “He serves like Jesus is serving me.”
Lord, what a wonderful thing to be called your child, the child of the King of Peace. May you draw me close and build up in me a great peace to quiet my soul and to share with others!
