Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.
Jesus was on an important mission. A leader of the synagogue had a daughter he needed to raise from the dead. We read about this two days ago. I can imagine the tense nature of things, with everyone eager to see what God would do.
Yet, in a moment, a healing power went out from him. He could have ignored it. He could have made the argument that he was busy. But instead, he stopped what he was doing to look for the healing recipient.
He stopped not to judge, but to care. He knew there was likely a hurting person behind this healing. He cared more about her than how he looked to others.
What do I do when I’m interrupted, even while doing an important ministry? Will I slow down and care in the interruptions?
Lord, thank you for this wonderful passage, showing the compassion and humanity of Jesus. He cared for people BIGTIME! Help me to do the same.
