As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
How hard am I willing to pursue The Healer?
Jesus was a very popular person right about now. I guess being kind, not talking down to people, and sharing the truth was refreshing to some. Oh, and casting out lots of demons, healing the sick and deformed, and raising the dead probably increased his popularity a bit too.
Does it strike you as odd that these men were blind? In all of my years of watching or reading, I have never seen a tale made up entirely of blind men. How did they make this happen?
I think the thing I like about these blind men the most is that they show dogged determination. No matter the obstacle, they were going to see Jesus, they were going to visit the healer and ask for healing. So they followed him without worrying about the personal cost. They struggled to get through the crowd, heard his voice and sought him out.
They pursued Jesus, and Jesus turned around and asked them what he could do for them. I love this interaction too. Jesus loved to help and he was most impressed with their faith.
Sometimes God heals in incredible ways, but he doesn’t want us to just act on our own thoughts and ideas. He wants us to seek him out so we can hear what we’re supposed to do and say.
Lord, thank you for this day and your blessings. I thank you for all the ways you’ve helped us. Blessed all who have helped us mature in our faith. These blind men have 20/20 Faith Vision!
