Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
It is said that to scare off an approaching wild animal, one good technique is to stand up tall (or better yet, on top of something), put your arms out wide and make a lot of noise. This is really tricking the animal, but the goal is to seem bigger and more powerful than the animal. Others say to quietly back away slowly.
Many in this world like to puff up like a cat or plume like a peacock. They talk a big talk. They flaunt their wealth and prestige and power. They have the appearance of success, popularity, and power, but it is fake.
Real, lasting power comes from Almighty God! It is a grant to his righteous people. And it does not always involve fighting. Most of the time, it looks like being a humble servant. Jesus understood this type of power, and he perfectly executed his mission from God. He humbled himself. He waited on the mighty right hand of the Lord of the Universe!
When I humble myself under God’s righteous right hand, then he will lift me up in due time (I Peter 5:6). When we give God the honor and glory and seek after him, we gain the ability to serve with his power and might behind us! Pretty incredible!
Are you looking for true victory in life? It is found in the name of the Lord! Yesterday’s chariots are today’s jet airplanes and yachts, large houses and fancy vacations. And we must lay them all down at the foot of the cross. The early church sold their assets to provide for the needs of their brothers and sisters. How do I continue to prioritize people above things?
Lord, what an incredible and passionate psalm about the wonderful power of a relationship with you! Help me to trust you that you will lift me up in due time. Keep me focused on eternal goals. May I serve you well.
