[Mary the mother of Jesus speaking]
“His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”

The GOODNESS OF GOD. We must recount it. We must remind our hearts that he is good. We must CLAIM promises pertaining to his goodness and LOOK FOR IT in the craziness of our days. God is so good.

Mary speaks of His goodness here specifically: 1) He extends mercy to those who fear him, 2) He performs mighty deeds with his hand, 3) He scatters the thoughts of the proud, 4) He brings down rulers and lifts up the humble, 5) He fills the hungry with good things, 6) He sends the rich/proud away empty, 7) He remember his people, and 8) He keeps his promises.

When I look at this list, my cares, worries, and stresses seem to fade away. They do this the more I meditate about God’s goodness. I somehow can forget quite quickly the goodness of God, though. Maybe this is why many recount his goodness in song, so they can remember it.

How has God been good to you? How will you remember his goodness and thank him for it in life more and more?

Lord, praise your name! I am so blessed that you seek me out and love me! You are my portion, my provision, my refuge, my redemption, my strength, and my salvation every hour of every day! You sustain me!
