In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].
‭‭
Light in our world is a life-source. It is one of the most critical elements for our existence. So critical is light in supporting life, that God created it right after creating the heavens and the earth. We use light along with water to grow our food. During the COVID outbreaks, we have found that light and its byproduct, Vitamin D, are very important in fighting off disease and illness. And light makes us happy and productive. It gives us confidence to run and take risks. Daylight is the time we shine.
Spiritually, just like the sun, the moon, campfires, and our light bulbs provide light, Jesus provides light in our hearts. He does this by shining his goodness into our lives. By his light, I can be made new — cleansed and refreshed by the Holy Spirit. And once my heart is full of Jesus’ light, I get to shine it into the lives of those around me. More time with Jesus and his light makes me more brilliant to those around me. And I become a better lover of people, as I look for ways to bless them. Many people are looking for meaning in this life. By following Jesus closely, I get to be his Light Ambassador to a lost world!!! “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (II Corinthians‬ ‭5:20‬) Reconciled to God and Jesus = Reconciled to The Light. Lord, help me to be reconciled to your light today and learn to shine brightly to others by first filling up with your light. Everything radiates when your light shines! It brings joy and breathes hope into the most devastating circumstances. Your light is life and I thank you for it.
