Foolish Wisdom or Wise Foolishness‭‭ - I Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬-‭23‬

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

As smart as we think we are at times, we are always foolish in comparison to the almighty and omniscient God. And those who, instead of touting their intelligence, recognize God as sovereign, the world considers fools. So we are called here to be “fools” in the eyes of the world, in order to be truly wise.

God is wisdom defined. He created it. He owns the patent on it. And he rules with it. Recognizing his wisdom and submitting to it is the only wise thing we can do. He also rewards us for this.

All of the wise coaches and philosophers of this world are minuscule in comparison to an almighty God. And he promises to give us all things (all the things that truly matter and have eternal significance) when we trust him and seek after him.

Thank you Lord, for this passage, that helps me bring everything into context. The battles I have in this world over who’s smarter or who’s right or what the best way is are simply solved by seeking your advice first. Help me to be humble and available to hear your voice.
