As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, because I have decided to winter there. Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way and see that they have everything they need. Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives. Everyone with me sends you greetings. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all.
Here we see, at the end of Titus, the movement of the servants of the Lord. Artemas and Tychicus are sent to likely take over mentorship of the church Titus serves. This allows Titus to rejoin Paul, who wants to visit with him and has a need for him. It also sounds like Zenas the lawyer and Apollos (a talented preacher) are being sent out in ministry.
The mission of spreading the gospel to a lost world is “front and center” in the mind of Paul and those who mentored under him. “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” (II Corinthians 5:14-15) These followers of Jesus served with PASSION, JOY, and CONVICTION! They are COMPELLED AND PROPELLED forward to advance the cause of Jesus Christ by doing good and speaking the truth.
As Christ followers we must not neglect the urgent needs of the church. We are to provide for those in need. We are to seek them out and be the hands and feet of Jesus to them. Doing good is our daily devotion. When we grow tired and weary of this, we simply ask God to fill us with his good gifts and/or to send help.
And finally, the love of brothers and sisters in Christ shines through in these last verses. Family/close friendship greetings are sent. This comes from those who sacrificially love each other from the heart.
Lord, thank you for the model of servant leadership here, with love and sincere devotion to those in the body of Christ. May I be known for my good works and sacrifice for those you call me to love around me. Grow this in my heart to overflowing. Thank you!
