[Jesus speaking]
At midnight the cry rang out:”‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!”
Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, “Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.”
“No,” they replied, “there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.”
In this second part of the parable, we see the reaction time of the virgins to the arrival of the bridegroom. This is critical as it shows how committed they are to the bridegroom, and how faithful they were to be prepared for his coming
Some of the virgins were ready. Others were unprepared. And at the end of the ages, the period of Grace is over. Ample time has been given for people to decide to be faithful. Here, Jesus will judge and separate the faithful from the unfaithful.
This flies in the face of many arguments today, where people build their own religion, erasing hell and the consequences of sin to suit their own fancy. They will be sorely disappointed on judgment day. For the true followers of Jesus, it is our calling and mission to shine a light that is bright, pure, and holy.
We are to lead the way for those who are not following Jesus. Sometimes this requires tough love. Most of the time it requires grace, forgiveness, and kindness.
Lord, help me to be a light to those who waiver in their faith. I’m a broken man saved by grace, and I’m committed to following you wholeheartedly and seeking your truth, your righteousness and your ways. Empower me to be a great spiritual warrior for you.
