I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been ENRICHED IN EVERY WAY — with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge — God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.

Have you ever felt like something was lacking in your relationship with God? I know I have at times.

I like the movie, Firefox, with Clint Eastwood, in part because the story is about a bit of a “Hail Mary” effort to continue to allow free enterprise to exist and to hold communism at bay. There are people who have prepared for this time for many years. Everything has come together in a climax to create an opportunity for change.

The man they pick for the job is a washed-out military fighter pilot, who happens to speak Russian and kind of looks like who he will be impersonating. He has about a week to train, and travel to Russia. He tends to have blackouts with PTSD over some of his fighting days.

The whole plan hinges on his ability to perform and also overcome the obstacles in front of him and his challenges with PTSD. He doesn’t feel qualified. He doesn’t feel like he has enough information to effectively do his job. And he doesn’t understand how everything is going to come together.

But he also knows there’s a higher purpose that is more important than having all of the information. He doesn’t feel like he’s qualified, but he goes because he cares for others.

Unlike Clint in this movie, God, through Jesus, gives us everything we need to accomplish our mission of living a pure life and standing for the truth, of loving selflessly regardless of the personal cost, and being bold yet gracious in our application of our faith.

We have every spiritual gift in Christ. We have everything we need provided for us right on time in Christ.

And like Clint was called into action, Paul is getting ready call the Corinthians into action too. So Paul tells them they are ENRICHED IN EVERY WAY! This is important because the Corinthian culture and its rituals are pagan and not always in line with the truth. They must resist and stand strong.

Do I see myself as enriched in every way? If not, why not?

Lord, you have already given us everything we need to be successful in life. I am fully enriched! Teach me to live with this spiritual confidence and to tap into your strength and spiritual riches deeply and often.
