Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
Like it or not, God didn’t choose you or me because of our intelligence or our wisdom. He chose us because he loves us, even though we are weak and emotional beings who tend to knee jerk, wander, and fall frequently.
Unlike those who do not follow God and pretend to be wise and full of understanding, we do not have to pretend. Christ-followers have Jesus as our wise and all-knowing Savior and we have the Holy Spirit in our hearts
It does not matter if you have a PhD or are in a high position or have immense wealth or beauty. God values humility and obedience, honesty and dedication, truth and grace, and above all — unconditional love.
Why does knowing Jesus matter? To understand this in part, let’s look at these three questions:
How is Jesus our Righteousness?
How is Jesus our Holiness?
And how is he our Redemption?
He is our righteousness because he lived a perfect life and died for our sins. God sees us through his perfect sacrifice!
He is our holiness because he has right and pure movies, he is God, and he lived a life that honored God the Father.
And he is our redemption because he redeemed us from the fate of hell by his blood.
Lord, thank you for this wonderful passage that describes what we have in Jesus by comparing it to how the world operates. I am truly richly blessed by my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is my righteousness, my holiness, and my redemption.
