So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic. I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Unity around the gospel message is critical in our witness to a lost world. People are looking for truth to hope in. If they find compromising Christ-followers, this looks and feels like a deception or half truth to them. But if they see a united church, centered around the Word of God and obedience to his will and ways, then this becomes a beacon of light in a dark and chaotic world.

Jesus is our Rock, our Fortress, our Firm Foundation in a crooked and divisive world. In him, I can take refuge when the attacks of the evil one come.

Unity for unity’s sake is worthless and dumbs down any faith to irrelevance. But unity around Jesus Christ is a powerful weapon in this world. I must stand firmly on the Rock of my Salvation, though many try to talk me into the worldly ways of demise.

Lord, you are where my primary loyalties lie. Not in family, church, or friends; while these are all important to me. It is and always will be God first, others second, and self last.
