My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I WILL NEVER BE SHAKEN. How long will you assault me? Would all of you throw me down— this leaning wall, this tottering fence? Surely they intend to topple me from my lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse. Yes, my soul, find rest in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; POUR OUT YOUR HEARTS TO HIM, for God is our refuge.

‭‭Apathy and laziness are the slow working acid that destroys our faith. When I think of the periods of my life when I was tempted to give up on pursuing God further, fear was leading me to apathy and laziness in my faith. Sometimes we just get tired of wrestling with the challenges of life. Other times we pretend we don’t care so we don’t get hurt anymore. Some people, when something they have hope for does not work out, will then decide to blame God or others and not hope anymore.

But a true relationship has struggles and victories, joys and disappointments. It is OK to be upset at the situations we find ourself in. We CAN argue with God, as long as we show him the respect due his name. We CAN ask him the hard questions. David did, and he was called “a friend of God”.

Here the psalmist stakes his claim — his rest is found in God alone. A close relationship, a friendship with God — it is the foundation of real life, it is a fortress to protect him and a rock to build his faith on! So, when mere man tries their darnedest to attack us and take us down, we can stand confidently on the rock of our salvation, the Lord our God! He is for us! He is with us! And he goes before us into the battle! We will never be shaken. He is an UNSHAKABLE GOD … who stands by our side!

Praise you Lord for this great promise of provision I find here in your Word. It is a healing balm to the challenges and trials of this life. May you go before me and fill me with all of your goodness that I may share it with all around and proclaim it to a lost and dying world!
