[Jesus speaking]
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

John 14:21
[Jesus speaking]
Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.
A while back, there was a ship and its captain sailing for new land. They set course and used the stars as a navigation tool. They headed west from Europe. As they set course, they focused on one star that did not rotate, the North Star. his star was a constant in a changing world.
Now what would happen if that star up and moved around? It would disrupt the navigation of many of the ships on the ocean.
If the truth is not constant, but relative, then you can never fully rely on it as a Life Anchor. And if the truth is relative, then the truth is always changing and love is reduced to a mere feeling.
However, if the truth is absolute, then our love can be deeper than a just a passing affection or fanciful feeling
Feelings fade, God and his truth do not. Love is obedience to Jesus. First we love God in an all-out manner. Then others. This is important, because we can not truly love others well without loving God, in a first and foremost way. Keep looking for and finding the opportunities to love God first and then love others.
Lord, thank you for your truth that fills me with confidence in an absolute foundation. Your love is demonstrated by obedience and is active, not just a feeling. Help me to know just how much you love me. Then I can love others after your model.
