Asking for Prayer - ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26‬:‭36‬-‭38

Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Jesus was sorrowful and troubled? Really?

Yes he was. Literally the weight of the sins of the world was about to be put on his shoulders and he would pay a very great price for us.

And so he asks his top three leaders to pray with him. He asks them to keep watch.

I believe Jesus was full of sorrow mostly for those souls that were going to hell and had rejected him, God’s Son.

This is a good model for us to follow. If Jesus needed help and people to pray for him, it is OK for us to need the help and ask for prayer too. But many will not ask for help. They trudge through alone on their own power.

We are called The Body of Christ for a reason: we are meant to live in community and support and encourage each other.

What does it mean to be a supportive friend to those who are full of sorrow? How can I ask for help as soon as I need it from God and those around me?

Lord, thank you for modeling humility and asking for prayer help. Even you were troubled at times. Teach me to see others in the church as a part of my body and support them and rely on them.
