A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

Who are my faithful friends? Who am I a faithful friend for?

I love this proverb, because in such a small sentence it packs such a powerful punch. True friendship is unconditional. It is flexible and bears with each other. It supports, seeks to understand, and walks with another. It challenges in truth and stands by the other person in adversity.

Godly brothers are this way, as well. They show up when it’s difficult to show up. They work for the benefit of another. They serve without expecting much in return.

As I think back over the last 50 years or so, there have been many friends, but few who stuck with me through the tough times. Like Job, but in smaller ways with me, I have found some friends like to give a lot of advice and don’t really want to get messy by helping their friend get to a better place.

Oh, but those who are faithful, they are RICH TREASURE indeed. They step up with real support; they believe in you when no one else does. And they put their money (also time & resources) where their mouth is.

Thank you, Lord, for the faithful friends you have given me. Help me to grow in my friendship ability. I want to be a more faithful friend each day.
