For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.
Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
When I think of all the things God has done in my life, they are much too many to name. Here are a few:
- He provided parents who sought to follow him,
- He performed a miracle on my broken arm at age five,
- He provided a friend in second grade when everyone else teased me because of my small hand,
- He watched over me during my mom’s struggle with cancer and afterwards.
- He allowed my dad and mom to bring hundreds to thousands of Cambodian and Vietnamese refugees into the kingdom of God,
- He provided, through a brother and sister in Christ, $5,000 for me to finish up Jr. College
- He provided scholarships for me to go to a private school to finish up college.
- He found a wife for me and we were introduced long-distance,
- He blessed me with my wife and eight children (5 living and 3 miscarriages)
- He has provided for me with friends and income in a strange season of unemployment.
- He is building up my business with great, family-values driven associates.
- He gives me opportunities almost weekly to see needs and coordinate meeting them with the church.
I also love the humility here: teach me your ways. Why? It is so the psalmist can learn to rely on his faithfulness. He is, in a way, asking for any challenges he can send his way to help him draw closer to God.
And finally he asks for an undivided heart. What an insightful prayer. One that has likely come from many years of likely falling into sin. When our hearts are pure, then God can choose to use us to do incredible things.
An undivided heart — what a great request!
Lord, help me to remember your faithfulness and love for me. You alone cause the sun to rise every morning, the wind to blow without ceasing, and music to play in my ears. You are faithful and you are good, Lord Jesus!
